Cornwall Bronze Success

Lauren Theedom took the U/15 Bronze Tournament in Cornwall by storm winning both the ladies Singles and the Ladies Doubles with Vicki Prouse. Lauren not only plays at queens bc but is also on the Performance Centre pathway working closely with Helen Ward.
It is great to see such young players doing so well and making their mark in national tournaments. I am sure this won't be the last success that we will see from Lauren. This was a great weekend with Sarah Preece winning the Ladies Doubles at an Adult Silver graded tournament. This is on the back of Sarah's success at previous weeks Devon Restricted tournament.
Devon County Restricted Tournament Success

queens bc had one of their most successful seasons this year at the Devon County Restricted Tournament held on Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd October 2011.
The very best players within Devon County came together to fight it out for the various titles on offer. queens bc took the Men's Singles title with Russell Walker which was a fantastic result for Russell. Leanne Debenham and Hannah Preece reached the semi finals of the Ladies Singles. Simon Brassington got to the quarter finals of the Men's Singles while Sarah continued the success in the Ladies Singles by getting to the quater finals as well.
Simon Brassington and his partner reached the quarter finals of the Men's Doubles while Kevin Cobbledick and Ian Kirby reached the semi finals and Russell and Jamie Roberton reached the final.
It was much the same in the Mixed Doubles with Kevin Cobbledick and Gina Sawyer getting to the quater finals along with Darren Frisby and Hannah Preece. Russell Walker and Sarah Preece made the semi finals.
Nick Masson Club Chairman said: 'These are fantastic results for the players especially as some of them are really at the beginning of their careers in badminton. The results were really close and could have gone either way against experienced players which bodes very well for the future of the players and queens bc'.
Silver Success

Queens Badminton Club is proud to announce that three of its U/11 year old players reached finals and won at the recent U/11 JC tournament held at Exeter University and St Peters Sports Centre. The following results were quite outstanding:
Lloyds Skinner U/11 Boys Singles Winner
Bronya Pike U/11 Girls Singles Winner
Lloyd Skinner and Alex Moir U/11 Boys Doubles Winners
Along with Simon Brassington U/17 singles and doubles win it made for a very successful weekend for our players.
Congratulations also has to go to the hard work of coaches both at the club and performance centre for their dedication and committment to the development of young players.
It is very excitig times at Queens Badminton Club as the age at which performances are achieved at the club just keep getting younger.

In looking back we hope it will also enthuse you all to look forward and to continue to support the club in its next phase of development.
There will be new experiences and new friendships to be made and all through the wonderful sport of badminton.

10th Award Presentation Evening

I would like to thank all those who attended our tenth Award Presentation Evening it was fantastic to see so many new faces. The club continues to grow in strength with a new look committee and new Head Coach Helen Ward.
The performance pathway is developing all the time and I'm excited about the opportunities this affords to all our players.
I would also like to welcome Simon Brassington our new Club Captain to the Committee and wish him every success in his new role.
Ben Watkins has also returned from university and hopes to be able to coach back at the club. Ben is a fully qualified Physiotherapist as well as Level II coach.
Sarah Preece continues to coach at the club as well as develop her own playing skill. Both are great ambassadors of the club and we recognise the great contribution they will make to our club.

Hannah Preece and Hannah Down both were accepted to play in the U/17yrs and U/15yrs respective Nationals held at Stoke on Trent at the weekend.

A big thank you must go out to all those who attended our 24Hr and Auction of Promises. The funds are still coming in but we know that already over £1,000 has been raised.
Director of Badminton & Head Coach

queens bc and Exeter University have worked together to develop a Director of Badminton and Head Coach position.
Helen Ward former England player has accepted the position and commences on Monday 21st September 2009.
The role covers both the development of queens bc and the university badminton team.
